12 Hours of Temecula

Heidi and I had a great time Saturday at the 12 Hours of Temecula. The conditions couldn't have been better; the sun was out for most of the day and the course was the fastest I've ridden in years. We missed Dave & Lynda as well as Bern & Josh, but there were plenty of friends out for a good time.

The new ride for '08

Big Picture

2008 is still a patchwork of events. There's not a definite plan yet, no overall sequence of challenges. Besides races, I want to fit billiards into my sport calendar and I'm hoping to enter a few scrabble tournaments -- I started playing again over the holidays after a 10+ year hiatus.

Too bad there's no triathlon of sorts that includes all three; start off with a 8-12 hour race followed by a day of billiards and word games. In the event of a tie, the winner could be determined by percent completion of the NYT Magazine crossword puzzle in half an hour. =)

Merriment in St. George

Bern and I will be headed out to Utah on Friday to ride with Lynda and company at Camp Lynda -- "a no-nonsense self-supported binge training mission". I think there will be much more merriment than punishment, but what do I know.

I hope there's a billiards place in St. George so Bern and I can work on the 9-ball game. Depending on how things progress we might even try this in August.

2007 was a great year, but something was missing. It just wasn't the same without the adventure that is La Ruta de Los Conquistadores. I missed the rugged jungle terrain, the torrential rains, the intense heat & humdity and hanging out with friends. La Ruta ignited my passion for racing and the first one was definitely a life changing experience; the race brings out the beauty of the human spirit. To this day no other race has giving me such intense adrenaline rushes.

I've done it four times: 2002, 2003, 2004 & 2006 and the plan is to head down to Costa Rica in November for the epic adventure then spend some time afterwards in Panama. My goal is to improve on my best finish to date, 25th overall in 2004.
